CAMPLEADUP.ORG

Restructuring and redesign for the website of a local leadership summer camp for minority students.

RESTRUCTURING

After an initial consultation, it was clear that the client's two main goals were to obtain leads for donations and youth sign-ups. The structure of the site, however, did not reflect this intent. There were three to four clicks separating the visitor from that goal, and the design created even further barriers along the way.

Before and After Comparison

ORIGINAL HOMEPAGE

The first step to obtaining new leads would be to reduce the content, make it more concise, and re-organize the navigation and other interactive elements on the page to better direct visitors.

CONTENT STRATEGY

It was really inspiring to work with a client offering such a dynamic and valuable program to his community. Obviously, it was important to Camp Lead-Up to convey all the ways in which different students could be included, how long the program had been going on, as well as its history and upcoming events. Nonetheless, it was even more important to keep the viewer's interest and lead them to a sign-up or donation than to be thorough and perhaps too detailed.

To solve this issue, pages on Projects, About us, and the 2017 Camp were condensed into About Us. A gallery of highlights from throughout the years was kept within that page, with newly edited and cropped photos showing a diversity of activities and age groups. And the crowning jewel, a very professional advertisement video produced for the camp, was placed in center-stage on the homepage.
